KS1 Sports Day

Dear Parents,

Due to this morning’s sustained rain, thunder, lightening and forecast for more this afternoon, Sports Day for KS1 (Y1 and Y2) has been postponed. We will aim for the reserve date of tomorrow, Wednesday 13th July at 1.30pm and confirm tomorrow. Apologies for an inconvenience this causes to all our parents, grandparents and carers.

PTA AGM all welcome – Mon 18th July

Dear Parent/Carers,

I hereby give notice of the AGM of Wessex primary School PTA, to be held on Monday 18th July 2016. This evening will commence at 6.30pm with the PTA Annual General Meeting, followed by a BBQ and drinks in the outside lower school, weather permitting.

As well as a chance to hear and see how the funds you have helped to raise have been used for the benefit of the children at our school, the AGM is also an opportunity for you to elect the PTA Committee to represent the association throughout the forthcoming academic year. Nominations should be sent in advance of the AGM.

For existing committee members willing to stand for re-election and for anyone else wishing to stand as an officer or ordinary committee member for the first time, please return the form attached above as soon as possible via the school office.

Please let us know via email if you will be attending so we can cater food and drinks. Email to: pta@wessexprimary.org letting us know if you would prefer meat or vegetarian food.

Regards,

Loren Stone & Fiona Hayes, PTA Co-Chair

Headteacher update

Dear Parent/Carer,

IMPORTANT INFORMATION: HEADTEACHER UPDATE FOR WESSEX

As you are all aware, we have been actively seeking to appoint a new Headteacher for Wessex since March. Recruiting Headteachers is extremely challenging within this Local Authority and, sadly, we have not yet found the right person for Wessex.

However, the school governors and local authority, in close partnership with the school leadership team, have worked really hard to prepare for this contingency. As a result, I am very happy to inform you that we have secured an excellent leadership plan for September whilst we continue to seek a full-time Headteacher for Wessex.

From 1st September 2016, Mrs Alison Penny will be our Interim Executive Head Teacher at Wessex. Mrs Penny is Headteacher at Woodlands Park Primary School. She will be based at Wessex for half the week and will be ably supported by Mrs Maskell and Mrs Pope, our current Deputy Heads who will work alongside her as Interim Co-Heads of School.

Mrs Penny is well-known to Wessex and is a highly respected Headteacher within the Local Authority. Mrs Maskell and Mrs Pope have been Deputies at Wessex for 8 and 5 years respectively, thus ensuring clear continuity for Wessex. Governors are pleased to have ensured such a secure leadership package for the School and the leadership team for September will be working closely with Mr Stevens to ensure a smooth transition for the Autumn.

Wessex Governors are extremely proud of the School’s recent Ofsted Report. Wessex is a good school, with outstanding personal development and well-being of its children and we are determined to build from here to make Wessex even better! We all want the best for all of the pupils.

Thank you to all of you for your continuing support and please don’t hesitate to contact the school office or speak to one of the Leadership Team if you have any queries or concerns.

Yours sincerely

Katheryn Russell, Chair of Governors, Wessex Primary School

Ofsted Report 2016

“Wessex is a primary school where individuals are cared for, valued and helped to achieve…”

“Leaders are ambitious for the school and have responded robustly to the areas for improvement identified in the last inspection…”

“Pupil’s outcomes in reading, writing and mathematics have risen steadily…”

“The way that the school looks after pupils’ personal development and welfare is outstanding…”

“Pupils enjoy school and many said that their teachers are ‘fantastic’…”

“(Pupils) show respect for each other and are well prepared for the next stage of their education…”

“Governance is very effective.”

These are just some of the quotes from our Ofsted report, which I am now able to share with you. I am immensely proud that our work, dedication and focus on the children has been recognised so positively and warmly by our inspection team and would like to thank the entire team at Wessex – children, staff, governors and parents – for helping us on our journey over the past three years. Please click the link above to view the report which  will go live on the Ofsted website on the 8th June. I am really pleased too that the report has ‘landed’ before half term so that we can share it with you before the break. Please take time to read it and recognise our achievements and enjoy it.
