“Wessex is a primary school where individuals are cared for, valued and helped to achieve…”
“Leaders are ambitious for the school and have responded robustly to the areas for improvement identified in the last inspection…”
“Pupil’s outcomes in reading, writing and mathematics have risen steadily…”
“The way that the school looks after pupils’ personal development and welfare is outstanding…”
“Pupils enjoy school and many said that their teachers are ‘fantastic’…”
“(Pupils) show respect for each other and are well prepared for the next stage of their education…”
“Governance is very effective.”
These are just some of the quotes from our Ofsted report, which I am now able to share with you. I am immensely proud that our work, dedication and focus on the children has been recognised so positively and warmly by our inspection team and would like to thank the entire team at Wessex – children, staff, governors and parents – for helping us on our journey over the past three years. Please click the link above to view the report which will go live on the Ofsted website on the 8th June. I am really pleased too that the report has ‘landed’ before half term so that we can share it with you before the break. Please take time to read it and recognise our achievements and enjoy it.
Last Sunday, the Circus came to Wessex as the PTA’s annual fair was under the canvas of the Big Top for the first time. The weather was incredibly kind and the audience laughed, giggled, screamed and occasionally got wet for the performance of slapstick comedy, plate spinning, juggling and all around silliness. It was a real success and with the backdrop of the favourites from previous years – BBQ, Bar, Raffle, Tombola, Glitter Tattoos, Bouncy Castle, etc. great fun was had by all. Well done to the PTA team and everyone who got involved to make the event such a success.
The final figure raised is £2500… well done everyone!
The Circus is Coming to Wessex on Sunday 22nd May!
Tickets cost £5 per head and will go on sale on Mon 9th May, at the school atrium from 8am and at pick up time only until they sell out.
Tickets are now available to extended friends and family not at Wessex (babies in arms won’t need a ticket, but for H&S reasons, buggies won’t be allowed inside the tent).
- 3 performances for you to choose from:
1pm, 2:30pm and 4pm
- Doors will open at 12 noon
Seats aren’t numbered therefore we recommend you arrive at the school at least 1 hr before your selected performance, that should leave you plenty of time to grab a bite and a drink, tackle the giant inflatable assault course and have a go at the tombolas.
The Circus will be instead of the summer fair, so you don’t want to miss out! Also look out for:
- Colouring Poster competition – coming soon
Helpers get a free burger and a drink!
As usual, we need lots of volunteers to make this wonderful day work so please put the date in your calendar and get in touch (PTA@wessexprimary.org) to let us know if you can lend a hand, even for a short shift, it all helps!
On Wednesday 23rd March, Wessex will be dancing the afternoon away at the school discos!
Entrance for years 1 & 2 costs £2 and includes a sweet & a glow item to be paid the week before (look out for the form on your child’s school bag).

Last Saturday’s inaugural PTA race night was a run-away success as the runners and riders gathered in the Upper School hall to have fun, meet friends, enjoy the odd light refreshment (or two) and support the school – including a night off from their children!
Around 60 people attended and the tables were set for an evening of tension and drama as we all wagered on which horse would win one of the 9 races that were run – some over the jumps and some on the flat. It was good fun and a great chance for parents to let their hair down and enjoy the evening, with the event culminating in an auctioned final race with £120 prize for the winning table!
We raised a fantastic £1200 for the school, an amazing achievement and a great addition towards funds for our ‘Centre for the Arts’.

Last Friday evening went off with a bang as approximately 2000 people gathered at Cox Green for our joint annual fireworks display. The weather was drizzly but cleared in time for the start of the show and I must say that they were particularly spectacular this year!
The show was very well organised by the PTA and I would like to thank everyone involved for the meticulous planning that goes into setting up an event such as this. With a backdrop of fairground rides, food stalls and the amazing Cox green School Band, the evening was thoroughly enjoyed by all.
The event raised an impressive £1800 towards our PTA funds and the “Centre for the Arts” that we are aiming to achieve for all the children at Wessex. I would like to thank all the parents and staff who worked incredibly hard to make the event so successful – including the tidying up and ‘field pick’ on Saturday morning.
